What is Tagalog Nationalism?
Tagalog Nationalism is based on the following presuppositions:
- That nationalism is good and
- That to be a good nationalist, one must be a good Tagalog.
Adherents of this ideology are usually characterized by:
- A belief in the concept of unity in uniformity, specifically that in the ideal Philippines, every Filipino citizen should be a Tagalog, or at least able to speak the Tagalog language.
- An anti-English language attitude.
- A ‘nationalistic’ belief in a strong central unitarian government for the Philippines.
Dr. Jose Dacudao of SOLFED, Inc. is one of the first intellectuals in the Philippines to recognize this ideology.
