How many dialects does the Philippine have?

The simple answer is we don't know. The reason for this is that language research in the Philippines is still very sparse, and even the major languages (with more than 200,000 speakers) are not yet fully documented.

What is important to note is that the major languages have several dialects. For example, Ethnologue lists 4 dialects for Cebuano (Cebu, Boholano, Leyte, Mindanao Visayan: Boholano is sometimes considered a separate language). Tagalog has the following dialects: Lubang, Manila, Marinduque, Bataan, Batangas, Bulacan, Tanay-Paete, Tayabas.
